Assessment techniques and key questions
Throughout the teaching plans, there are key questions to ask (shown in red), which will help you assess the children’s understanding. Asking questions and giving the children opportunities to discuss
At the end of the activity set, you can use the following guide to assess and record the children’s learning using the All/Most/Some model. On the Self–Assessment sheet, the bold statements are those which should apply to most pupils. On separate sheets you will find the KS1 Teacher Record sheet, KS1–TRS, and the pupil Self–Assessment sheet, KS1–SA.
All
• Explain what the word algorithm means
• Plan a solution to a problem by writing an algorithm without using a computer
• Use this algorithm to write a program
• Make a program that drives the van using forward, left and right
Most
• Explain how their code works
• Debug a simple program
• Understand that a computer needs precise, step–by–step instructions
• Can make a program that uses more than 5 instructions
Some
• Demonstrate logical thinking to correct errors in their program
• Predict what a simple program will do without having to run it first
